Scared of the active volcano overlooked the town of Baños, the volcano that constantly spews ash and hot lava out into the peaceful valley below? The volcano that has destroyed the city at least three times since its founding, most recently in 1999? The volcano you can´t see in this pictures because of the clouds?

Never fear, you´re in Catholic country now, folks, and our Virgen of the Holy Waters will protect you.

Having swum in the aforementioned holy waters very early this morning, however, I´d like to report that the fact that they are HOT (and I mean HOT) doesn´t really make me feel *better* about the relative state of the volcano...in fact I am now quite sure that there is a whole hell of a lot of volcanic energy going into the production of those holy waters.
Besides, we went to church today. By which I mean, we went into the church, to see the famous paintings of people being rescued from firey explosions by Our Lady, Mother of God. And while we were there, we thought we might ask the small favor of a clear night tonight, so we could do some after-dark volcano watching. We didn´t get it, so my faith in the power of virginity is waning. We did get this rainbow, though...

Now you are scaring me - apparently quite active volcanoes, Catholic churches, and swimming in "holy" hot waters... make sure that if you spill any salt to throw it over your LEFT shoulder! Love to you.
